Many Years
Many Years, 2017, one layer linoleum print, 30” x 30”
The piece Many Years was made out of a 25” x 25” circular piece of linoleum and cut into the shape of a tree trunk. Within the black border is 18 separate lines, each with a different image repeatedly carved out. Every image is representing a significant event that happened in that year of my life. All 18 lines are circling around a solid outline of an angel, which is based on a pendant I received on the day of my birth and have kept with me ever since.
My main inspiration for this piece was based around this pendant, along with my fascination for nature itself. I wanted to represent the connection between the start of human life and how each year that goes by is just as significant as the last and creates an ongoing impact in our life and growth, the same way a trees lifespan is important for its personal growth.
